According to people familiar with the situation, China withdrew a draught resolution against the AUKUS alliance at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) general meeting in Vienna on Friday after determining that the measure would not obtain majority support.

The Indian government worked extensively with numerous IAEA member nations to ensure that the draught resolution, which contended that the AUKUS initiative breached Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States’ obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), did not receive a majority approval.

India took an “objective perspective” on the AUKUS plan while acknowledging the IAEA’s technical appraisal as sound. Sources say that the Indian office at the IAEA in Vienna worked closely with a lot of other IAEA member states on this issue.
