Hasan Salihamidzic, the director of Bayern Munich, acknowledged speaking with Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes about a prospective summer transfer, but Napoli maintained that they never had any interest in the Manchester United star. One of the main themes of summer transfer season was the uncertainty surrounding Ronaldo’s future, but as of Thursday’s deadline, he was still a United player.

Since Ronaldo stated that he intended to play in the Champions League this year, various clubs, including Chelsea, Sporting CP, Napoli, and Bayern, have been associated with him. However, the last two teams have made it clear how close they were to make a deal for the 37-year-old. Salihamidzic explained the German champions’ position and acknowledged that he spoke to Mendes, not Ronaldo, saying, “I often talk to Jorge.”

He has an enormous personality. He is a significant football player who has recently left his impact on the sport. We didn’t have a choice because we had other things to do, Salihamdzic remarked. You’re not required to feel sorry for him, however. He is a fantastic football player who has made significant progress recently. An important late-window rumor suggested that Mendes was working on a deal.

That deal would have seen Ronaldo move in the opposite direction. Also, Napoli attacker Victor Osimhen move to Old Trafford for a nine-figure payment.

Giuntoli stance on this

However, as of the end of the play, both strikers were still with their respective clubs, and Cristiano Giuntoli, the director of Partenopei, played down rumors that a deal had been closed. Although Ronaldo is an exceptional athlete, Giuntoli claimed there was absolutely nothing to it. Mendes and I got along well, but there was nothing official. Ronaldo came off the bench in Thursday’s 1-0 victory over Leicester. Further, he will stay at Manchester United to play for Erik ten Hag this season.

The 37-year-old started the season’s opening two games, but they resulted in humiliating losses to Brentford and Brighton. Since then, he has had to make do with a spot on the bench, coming on as a substitute for the Red Devils’ three straight victories over Liverpool, Southampton, and Leicester. Ronaldo, who led Manchester United in scoring last season with 24 goals across all competitions, has yet to score.
