Seema Patra, a suspended BJP lawmaker who is suspected of torturing her tribal domestic help, was taken into custody by Ranchi police early on Wednesday. According to police sources, Seema Patra will be presented in court later today. This can also lead to send her in jail.
Following Seema Patra’s flight, because of fear of police arrest, Ranchi’s Argora police initiated a search operation for her. It is said that Sunita, a domestic helper, was made to scrub the toilet with her tongue. Sunita has got numerous wounds all over her body. She claims that Seema Patra used to burn her by using hot things.
Under the pertinent sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the SC-ST Act, 1989, the Argoda police registered a case against Patra in Ranchi. She is the spouse of former IAS officer Maheshwar Patra. On Tuesday, according to Section 164, court recorded Sunita’s testimony. After charges of mistreating her housekeeper, the Jharkhand BJP placed Seema on indefinite leave. Ranchi police arrested Seema as she attempted to flee the city on the road after they had conducted many raids to arrest her.
About Seema Patra
She is the state convener of the “Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao” movement. She used to be part of the BJP’s women’s wing. Ayushman Patra, Seema Patra’s son, tried to protect the maid while working at the state secretariat, and he told his friend Vivek Baske about the events at home. Vivek saved Sunita after she, at last, told him about her tragedy.
The allegation against her includes harassment of her domestic worker in Jharkhand. Also, the National Commission (NCW) is now investigating the matter. Further, NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma said in a statement that the panel has written to the DGP of Jharkhand requesting to take the accused into custody if the charges are genuine.
