Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that they are looking into claims that the 21-year-old broke his parole conditions. Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has been arrested on suspicion of breaching bail, according to Greater Manchester Police.
The 21-year-old was detained on rape, assault, and threatening to kill charges, and GMP has now stated that they have responded to an allegation that bail conditions were allegedly broken.
“Greater Manchester Police are aware of an accusation of a 21-year-old guy violating his bail conditions,” a Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman told The Sun. Currently, investigations are being carried out.”
Since his original arrest on February 2, United has suspended Greenwood. Mason Greenwood, a Manchester United forward, was charged with attempted rape, participating in controlling and coercive behavior, and assault on Saturday, according to prosecutors.
The 21-year-old England international is expected to appear in Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Monday for a hearing on three counts relating to the same woman. Following the emergence of images and videos on the internet, the footballer was arrested for the first time in January on suspicion of a crime involving a young woman.
He’d been released on bond since then but was arrested on Saturday for allegedly violating his restrictions. Shortly after 1500 GMT, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) stated that it had approved Greater Manchester Police to charge Greenwood.
“The Crown Prosecution Service has today approved Greater Manchester Police to charge Mason Greenwood, 21, with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault causing actual bodily harm,” said Janet Potter, deputy head crown prosecutor for CPS North West.
Greenwood, who has played for England once, was barred from playing or training with United within hours of the allegations being made public at the start of the year. Greenwood’s Nike sponsorship was suspended and later canceled, and Electronic Arts confirmed his removal from active squads in FIFA 22.
Greenwood has participated in 129 games for the club and scored 35 goals since making his United debut in 2019. “There has been no change in Mason’s status,” the Premier League club noted in an earlier report in April. “We removed his profile from the club app soon after he was discharged from the squad in January.” Mason was removed from the app’s interactive features such as team predictions.
“However, his profile was never taken down from the internet because he is still a Manchester United player, although one who is not now in the squad, while the legal process is underway.”. Several business partnerships have since been discontinued for the forward, and his bail was extended in June as the investigation continued.
