According to Reuters, Russia added the social networking company, Meta, to its list of terrorist and extremist organizations on Tuesday.

The Russian authorities blocked social media services such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter in March. A Moscow court has also accused the Mark Zuckerberg-owned social media site of extremist activities, alleging that it allowed Ukrainian social media users to upload content encouraging violence against Russians.

According to Reuters, Meta’s lawyer then denied the claims, telling the court that the organization had never engaged in extremist activity and was opposed to Russophobia.

Since Russia started an all-out invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the Kremlin has increased its grip on social media. It has barred access to Western social media platforms, accusing them of inciting violence against Russians. In retaliation, European tech companies have demonetized and even blacklisted Russian state-sponsored media.

Many settlements are still without energy “Valentin Reznichenko, the regional governor, stated on social media. This comes just one day after Russian soldiers unleashed the largest aircraft bombardment on Ukraine since the war began.
