Despite the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has committed $400 million in humanitarian aid. According to sources, Riyadh’s announcement came after a phone call between Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

According to sources, the Crown Prince stressed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will support “everything that helps to de-escalate, as well as the Kingdom’s readiness to continue mediation efforts.”

Saudi Arabia also backed a resolution at the United Nations General Assembly criticizing Russia’s illegitimate seizure of four Ukrainian provinces.

As a result, Zelenskyy commended Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on his decision not to vote for Russia. “I spoke with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia.”. “Thank you for your support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and resolution at the United Nations General Assembly,” Zelenskyy said in a tweet.

According to media sources, Saudi Arabia’s support for the UN General Assembly resolution originates from the country’s fundamental commitment to the concept of national sovereignty.

Abdulaziz Alwasil, Saudi Arabia’s UN representative, remarked that Riyadh’s vote was compatible with its position of “upholding the ideals enshrined in the United Nations charter.”
