According to the Vahan webpage, Ola Electric is on track to deliver 20,000 electric scooters by October 2022. The firm is India’s first EV manufacturer to attain such high sales figures. Ola grew by 60% month on month or approximately 8,000 units.
Okinawa, Ampere, Hero Electric, Ather Energy, TVS, and Bajaj had total sales of 11,754 units, 8,812 units, 8,348 units, 6,976 units, 5,205 units, and 3,265 units, respectively. During this holiday season month, the entire electric two-wheeler market experienced its highest-ever sales, with a 30% increase.
Ola Electric revealed its goal to open over 200 experience centers across India by March 2023 in September 2022. These touchpoints will assist the company in better displaying and explaining its electric scooters to its clients. According to media sources, the Ola experience centers would also serve as after-sales and service touchpoints.
The recently debuted Ola S1 Air, a less expensive form of the Ola S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters, has contributed to the company’s overall sales growth. Delivery of the new e-scooter will begin in the first quarter of 2023, according to Ola. The variant employs a smaller 2.5kWh battery pack linked to a 4.5kW electric motor located on the hub. In Eco mode, the Ola S1 Air is said to have a range of 101 kilometers and a top speed of 90 kilometers per hour.
A household charger takes 4 hours and 30 minutes to fully charge the S1 Air’s battery pack. There are three riding modes available: Eco, Normal, and Sports. The telescopic front fork and dual rear shock absorbers have been installed on the e-scooter. The front and rear drum brakes provide stopping power. It includes 34 litres of storage space behind the seat.
Royal Enfield
Royal Enfield recovered the most, by 84.44 percent, from 76,528 domestic sales in October 2022 to 40,511 units in October 2021. This is owing to the strong level of consumer interest in its best-selling model, the Classic 350, as well as the newly announced Hunter 350, Meteor 350, Bullet 350, and Electra 350 series.
Suzuki Motorcycles
Suzuki Motorcycles sold 69,634 units last month, up from 56,780 units in the same period the previous year. The business saw a 22.63 percent increase in sales, driven by increasing consumer interest in new, updated color options for its popular Suzuki Access 125 scooter line.
Honda Motorcycle
It was a tug-of-war between Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) and its nearest opponent by volume, Hero MotoCorp, for the majority of the year. HMSI, which had surpassed Hero MotoCorp in retail sales the previous month, ended up closing the wholesale despatches gap by nearly 20,000 units for October 22.
HMSI finished the holiday season with a 7.94 percent increase in domestic dispatches from 3,94,645 units last year to an astounding 4,25,000 units last month. The Premium version of the Activa, Dio Sport Edition, and Shine Celebration Editions lead the product assault.
Hero MotoCorp
Despite sales of 4,42,825 units on October 22, the two-wheeler maker was disappointed. In reality, its performance was 16 percent lower than the previous year, with 5,27,779 units sold. Worse, the brand’s deteriorating trend was exacerbated by its over-reliance on Splendor and a delayed recovery in rural areas. Since June, the industry’s volume leader has sold fewer than five lakh units.
Analysts following the company reported that price increases during the quarter boosted the average selling price by three percent, resulting in cost economics that did not favor the consumer. This is hardly surprising in a strongly competitive market driven by discounts and incentive schemes, which play a significant influence in customer decision-making. Honda’s Activa scooter outsold Hero MotoCorp’s entry-level volume seller, the Splendor.
TVS
TVS is one of India’s fastest-expanding ICE to EV players. Its figures also indicate a rapid recovery for the Hosur-based bike maker in October 2022. Total domestic despatches increased by 7% to 2,75,934 units, up from 2,58,744 in the previous year.
